Online dating as Eeeeevvvvvil....

I once posted on a private message board about what irks me about online dating. (I wrote in a bit more detail than my random meanderings here about it turning me off.)

Meanwhile...Someone I know has given up Facebook for Lent. (The HORROR!!!) He once commented on the joy of being able to meet people face to face and find out how they are doing. I couldn't blame him.

Isn't that the way things were meant to be?

What turns me off of online dating is this...

To me, it seems like just one more way of commodifying romance. And I know, it depends on how you look at it. Nevertheless...

As I posted elsewhere, I noticed that more than one (Christian) dating site lets people weed out potential mates by hair colour.

That seems a bit much to me. While I can relate to the idea of being attracted to someone...The Lord looks at people differently than we do. We are meant to value each other.

You can understand more of what I think about how we relate to each other romantically by reading Sex God by Rob Bell. Or, if you prefer, my review.
